30 Things I Have Learned

I just turned thirty yesterday…. WHAT!?!?!?!?!? I TURNED THIRTY? How did this happen? I still feel like a nerdy, confused, sixteen-year-old.  So far thirty feels real good. Like a comfy pair of mom jeans. I have learned a few things in my short thirty years. I figured I would share some of my brain gems I have collected through the years with you. Here are a few of my knowledge nuggets. Enjoy!

  1. Some people like you. Some people hate you. But, the vast majority of people do not care about you. This is not something to be sad about! This fact gives you freedom to be you, to make mistakes, to chase your dreams, to fail and try again. Just be you, because nobody really cares that much!

  2.  I have traveled quite a bit, and although it is SO FUN, and it makes me feel like my my life has more depth. I was surprised to learn that my small little home town is not all that different from Paris, France! There are roads, there are trees, there are people, there are even the same stores almost everywhere you go!  It is great to travel, but, you can find just as much beauty and adventure right in your own backyard. There is no place like home.

  3.  If you take great care of your relationships and your things, they will take great care of you.

  4. Turtles can breathe out of their butts! It is true, google it.

  5. “Many people think excitement is happiness… But when you are excited you are not peaceful. True happiness is based on peace.” Quote by Thich Nhat Hanh

  6. Books are amazing! I recently fell in love with reading and I wish I would have started to love reading sooner!

  7.  The key to a successful marriage is being selfless. (Marrying a good guy doesn’t hurt either.)

  8.  There is a lot more nudity than I was prepared for being a parent.  I was prepared for bath time and diaper duty… i was not prepared for nightly naked acrobatics!

  9. Do what you can with what you have. Try to make the best out of your current surroundings. If you aren’t happy on your way to the top. you probably still wont be happy when you reach your goals.

  10. The best moments in life happen when you put your phone down.

  11. Having children and making a family is essential for true happiness.

  12. Family is everything.

  13. Never eat a burnt Corn Nut.

  14. You WILL become your mother as you grow older. No matter how hard you try to fight it.

  15. Dream big but stay open minded. We can’t all be super models or pro NBA players. But there are tons of other exciting jobs and opportunities out there. If you don’t accomplish your big dreams, KEEP YOUR CHIN UP. There may be something better waiting for you that will make you more happy than you imagined! (Also refer to #1. No one cares if you don’t reach your goals. Most people just want you to be happy.)

  16. I feel the biggest step to maturity is becoming less self absorbed. Growing up means caring more about others than you do about yourself.

  17. Every parent needs one night out a month to hang out with friends! SET A DATE AND STICK TO IT, or else it will never happen. Use excuses like “book club” or “bunco” or “basketball” or “(your favorite TV show) viewing party”. This is essential for staying sane as a parent.

  18. Don’t be an a$$ hole. Nobody likes an a$$ hole.

  19. Babies grow up way too fast.

  20. You are not truly a parent until your kid has unexpectedly headbutted you square in the nose. Bonus parent points will be given if you were sleeping.

  21. The secret to reducing stress is by getting stuff done. Just do the thing already!

  22. God is real.

  23. There are definitely angels among us.

  24. You will never know everything about anything! There is soooo much knowledge out there to slurp up!

  25. Learning is fun.

  26. Your thoughts are powerful. Think happy thoughts.

  27. You never really grow up, you just get older.

  28.  Never ignore a red flag. Once upon a time I was desperate for a friend. I ignored red flags. Sadly this is a lesson I had to learn more than once. YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE FRIENDS WITH EVERYONE!

  29. Your husband should be your best friend. Treat him as such. Don’t forget about that poor guy. Show him some love. He is not your enemy. Say kind things about him. You will not regret it.

  30. Thirty is the new twenty.

Thanks for reading! Love you guys! xoxoxo Lou
